Camp Greystone
Avery spent the past week at Camp Greystone, in Zirconia, North Carolina (just a few miles south of Asheville, North Carolina). She swam in the lake, learned to paddle a canoe and made lots of new friends.
Isn't this gorgeous?
Avery and her cabin mates (including counselor, Mary Catherine).
We are glad to have her home.

Last Day of School
Today was Avery's last day of school in 3rd grade. At Providence, they celebrated with Fine Arts Day, a day when each grade recited poems and sang songs about what they learned this year. Also, artwork was displayed for parents to see. For the 3rd Graders, this meant they recited and sang about Texas. Avery recited a poem about the Texas rivers (the Rio Grande, the Pecos, the Nueces, the San Antonio, the Colorado, the Brazos, the Trinity, the Canadian, the Red and don't forget the Sabine...) in front of 400 or so in the audience. She did such a great job (ask her to recite them for you). We were so proud.
We also found an impressionist drawing of some trees at dusk that Avery created that was beautiful. Vincent Van Gogh would have been proud.

Boy's Day Out
Today, Connor and I had a Boy's Day Out. The meant going to watch our cousins play softball. First, we saw Kathryn play with her team, the Mudcats, in Plano at 9:30 am. They won, 12 - 11. Then, it was off to Frisco to watch Julia play with her team, The Twinkle Toes, at noon. Their team did not keep score.
Julia played great! She made several outs as pitcher, hit well, scored runs and was awarded the
game ball by her coach after the game.
Connor and I had a great time.

Texas Heroes Reports
Today, Avery's class celebrated Texas Heroes with a recitation of student's own "autobiographies" of famous Texans. Avery chose to be Susanna Dickinson, one of the (very) few survivors of the Alamo. (Be sure to turn the sound up loud to hear Avery read her story. Also, note her authentic "Texas accent".)
How many of these famous Texans do you recognize?
We were very proud of Avery. We consider her to be our hero.

Avery's Piano Recital 2010
Today, Avery ended her second year of piano lessons from Mrs. Carol Armstrong with a piano recital. She played America the Beautiful. We thought her playing was beautiful, too.

Baseball Game
Last night, Avery, Connor, Shannon and I went to a Frisco Roughriders minor league baseball game. So exciting (the cotton candy was a hit!). Happy Mother's Day!
